Resources for Free + Reduced Fee Therapy

  • Lotus Therapy Fund (Asian Mental Health Collective). If registration is closed at the time you visit the website, be sure to sign up for the newsletter to be notified when they open up for applications. If approved, you will receive up to eight free sessions of mental health care through one of Asian Mental Health Collective's Lotus Therapy Fund practitioners. https://www.asianmhc.org/lotus-therapy-fund/

  • Mental Health Liberation Fund. If registration is closed at the time you visit the website, sign up to be notified when they open for applications (which fill up FAST!). If approved, you will receive 4 - 12 free sessions and all providers are Black, Brown, Indigenous, or People of Color (BBIPOC). https://mentalhealthliberation.org/bipoc-therapy-fund/

  • Open Path Collective. This is a reputable website that lists providers who offer sliding scale (reduced fee) therapy and you can search for folks in different cost tiers. https://openpathcollective.org/

Other Options:

  • Do you have health insurance? Check with your provider to see what your mental health care coverage is. As an example, you might find out that you only need to pay a co-pay of $15 per session. Then, you can find a provider who takes your insurance - try the Alma directory here.

  • If you do have insurance, also ask about your out-of-network benefits (OON). If you have OON, then you would pay for the therapy session up front (for example, $250/session) and then the therapist will give you something called a superbill that you then submit to your insurance for reimbursement (which, truthfully, may take quite some time). If covered, the cost of your therapy could be partially or fully reimbursed! I am able to provide a superbill at the end of every month. My rate is $200/session so for some, this is not financially possible even with reimbursement at a later time.

  • Please let me know if you'd like me to post a blurb (without any of your identifying info like your name) of what you're looking for on a Colorado BIPOC therapist group page - it's very active and posts usually get multiple responses. For example: “26 year old Korean and white non-binary person looking for in-person therapy with queer Asian American therapist, needing sliding scale of $50-$80/session or that takes UnitedHealth Care.”
